Teen Braces

Oh yeah, the joys of middle school. That time of your life when all the fun stuff happens like acne and braces. Fantastic.

I just had another appointment with my orthodontist to see when my time comes for my transformation into brace face. Little did I know that it’s all going down in 2 days! Yikes!

I have to be honest, I’m pretty excited to get my braces. Why? Well, who doesn’t want straight teeth and…I just want to get it over with. I don’t want braces in high school so getting them done sooner than later is good in my book.

Over the past 12 months, I’ve had 3 orthodontist “check up” appointments but each time they told me it was just too early. The doctor wanted to get my teeth straightened out in the least amount of braces time and he was waiting until my big teeth were all in. That seemed to take forever but I was happy to wait so that I could have braces for less time.

Today, I went for the check-up appointment and they were all “you are ready”. Wait, what?!? I was prepared to be put off for another 6 months but I guess my teeth are ready for braces!

This is super exciting as I will get this brace face phase over with while I’m still in middle school but I’m a little bummed since there is a big list of foods to avoid with braces. Many of my friends have braces and they told me that they hurt at the beginning, but more importantly, they reminded me that my favorite gummy bears were off limits.

While I wait for the big day that I get my braces later this week, I thought it would be a good time to share with you the list that I got from the orthodontist at Starr & Dickens Orthodontics of “Foods to Avoid With Braces”. Whether you have braces or are getting braces, I thought this might be helpful to you because it was for me.

Oh yeah, they also told me to use my own good judgement and common sense regarding other hard, sticky or crunchy foods that may not be on this list.

Now, I just wait for the big day! Do YOU have braces? Are there any foods that I didn’t list that are good to avoid with braces?

xoxo,
Savannah
